Automotive coatings users and suppliers are facing ever increasing pressure to upgrade performance of their products and comply with environmental regulations. Both groups are making efforts to reach specific standards set by their suppliers and customers. As a result, many types of coatings and application methods have become available which are not widely known but which will become standard practice in the near future. The purpose of this seminar is to share knowledge of current processes and materials and share information regarding future trends in the industry.

This practical seminar offers a sound assessment of the latest developments in materials, application methods, and process selection for use in the automotive coating and supporting industries. It focuses on material properties of coatings and substrates, coating application, and the design of high performance and environmentally compliant coating operations. Corrosion and methods of preventing corrosion through the use of protective coatings, including case histories and troubleshooting approaches are discussed. An interactive, learner controlled instruction style, with an emphasis on problem solving discussions, makes it easy for attendees to obtain answers to specific questions.

Benefits of Attending
By participating in this seminar, you will:
  • Develop an overall understanding of coatings and corrosion prevention methods and processes
  • Learn how to select automotive finishes, primers, plastics, and become familiar with their properties, as well as costs and application methods
  • Gain a valuable understanding of durability of coatings and corrosion phenomena and learn how to prevent corrosion by the systems approach
  • Learn how to save costs by implementing more efficient processes and judicial selection of materials
  • Receive unbiased technical opinions on what works, what does not and why
  • Reinforce your mastery of troubleshooting and problem solving capabilities

Who Should Attend
Manufacturing personnel, process engineers, design and specification engineers, quality control, technical service, chemists and technical sales personnel dealing with finishing, coating and corrosion prevention will benefit from this seminar. It is appropriate for current users with limited to very good knowledge of coatings operations, who need or want to learn fundamentals, current trends, and new technologies.

Prerequisites
Participants should have an undergraduate engineering.

About SAE

What do cars, aircraft, trucks, off-highway equipment, engines, materials, manufacturing, and fuels have in common? SAE. The Society of Automotive Engineers is your one-stop resource for technical information and expertise used in designing, building, maintaining, and operating self-propelled vehicles for use on land or sea, in air or space.

Who we are & what we do

Nearly 80,000 engineers, business executives, educators, and students from more than 97 countries form our network of members who share information and exchange ideas for advancing the engineering of mobility systems. More than 16,000 volunteer leaders serve on our Board of Directors and our many other boards, councils and committees. Our technical committees write more new aerospace and automotive engineering standards than any other standards-writing organization in the world. We publish thousands of technical papers and books each year, and leading-edge periodicals and Internet and CD-ROM products too. Our Cooperative Research Program helps facilitate projects that benefit the mobility industry as a whole. Numerous meetings and expositions provide worldwide opportunities to network and share information. We also offer a full complement of professional development activities such as seminars, workshops, and continuing education programs. The meetings and activities of local sections provide an opportunity to network with colleagues near you.

Services for the public and the profession

Every day, we demonstrate our commitment to society through local, national, and international public awareness programs that promote vehicle safety and maintenance and energy resource conservation. Through the SAE Foundation, we are also deeply involved in the engineering-related education of children, teachers , college students, and faculty. Industry and faculty awards provide recognition to outstanding contributors in the profession.

Since its founding in 1905, SAE's dedicated people, strong technical base, and vision have helped serve the professional needs of engineers and the transportation needs of humanity. We are clearly poised to continue that role into the 21st century.
