Get a fresh new look at how to methodically integrate trauma research and empirical findings into clinical practice with trauma patients.

Despite the fact that trauma outcome studies consistently state that the most effective Post Traumatic Stress Disorder treatments are cognitive and exposure-based therapies that focus on emotional processing of the trauma material, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy failures and high dropout rates continue to plague this population and frustrate mental health professionals.

In this workshop, the instructor will offer a conceptualization of traumatic memories both from within a PTSD framework and as part of the survivor's core schemata. Participants will learn how to: (1) determine when to implement stabilization vs. trauma-processing interventions, (2) ascertain the best "treatment fit" for specific trauma characteristics (e.g., Type I vs. Type II traumas, fear vs. non-fear emotions), (3) apply an individualized, multifaceted CBT approach that combines varying degrees of exposure, cognitive, experiential and imagery interventions (including mastery and self-nurturing imagery) and (4) use empirically-based guidelines to assess, predict and respond to treatment roadblocks and failures when they arise. Through lecture material, instructional videos, case examples and review of outcome research data, workshop participants will get a fresh new look at how to methodically integrate trauma research and empirical findings into clinical practice with this population. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring their own case material.

The instructor will use his 20-plus years of clinical and research experience with trauma patients to provide a unique learning experience that teaches skills you can use immediately to improve outcomes with your clients.
