Accurate coding can be a powerful tool that will make your practice work harder for you

Most physician practices understand basic coding and billing procedures and are able to submit claims to the insurance carriers. In most practices, however, denials and delays are expected and occur frequently. These balances either inflate the accounts receivable or are written off. Few know how to manage the process and ensure maximum appropriate reimbursement while minimizing potential sanctions by Medicare and the third party carriers. It is possible to increase reimbursement while staying in compliance with coding guidelines, Medicare and the OIG. Practices that incorporate these principles ensure that every service and procedure is coded to the optimal level and every claim is prepared and submitted in a manner that makes delays and denials rare. It does not cost any more to code and bill correctly; however, there is a tremendous "cost" in reimbursement and potential sanctions for not coding and billing correctly.
