This one-day seminar offers clinicians a comprehensive "roadmap" to effectively navigate the process of counseling couples through affairs

Affairs are the most significant threat to marriages and families today. Even the most experienced clinician is faced with an enormous challenge and responsibility when counseling a couple through such a potentially devastating and turbulent crisis. Not surprisingly, therapists describe this problem as one of the most difficult to treat. The therapist must simultaneously assess risk, evaluate trauma, establish rapport, determine a couple's resources for conflict resolution and do all of this in an emotional climate of anguish, rage and despair. The task becomes finding the painful balance between hope and realism. While research suggests that affairs occur frequently in relationships and are a common presenting problem in couples therapy, the clinical literature offers little empirical research on how to counsel most effectively in this arena.
