You will examine the anatomy of common injuries, assess safety considerations for both the client and yourself and establish protocols to determine proper duration of treatment. Participants will perform deep tissue massage techniques on the upper and lower back, neck, and upper and lower extremities in a hands-on lab. You will develop manual techniques using the thumb, fingers, fist, elbow and forearm and discover mechanical aids for performance of deep tissue massage. The hands-on experience gained in this seminar will help attendees provide safer, more effective deep tissue therapy beginning the very next day. 6 CEUs. It is estimated that one in four Americans suffers from some form of musculoskeletal dysfunction. The areas most commonly affected are the upper and lower back, neck, and upper and lower extremities. Contributing factors include work injury, personal injury, home and vehicular accidents, sports and aging. Deep tissue massage techniques can greatly benefit sufferers of chronic pain and injury. However, there is a general misunderstanding of the concept of deep tissue massage from the perspectives of the patient/client and the therapist. Deep tissue massage can injure both the client and the therapist if not performed appropriately.
