QQBUDE Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Detailed Overview/Outline Discuss the treatment components of Prolonged Exposure therapy in order to successfully treat PTSD. Explore advanced topics, such as how to handle multiple traumas and how to address substance abuse that co-exists with PTSD. Trauma histories in mental health populations are more widespread than most clinicians realize. With recent events such as September 11 and the war in Iraq, PTSD is even more prevalent. PTSD and other trauma-related issues are often not asked about because clinicians may not know the best way to treat trauma or are concerned their client may fall apart if it is talked about. Fortunately, effective treatments for PTSD do exist. Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE), a cognitive behavioral treatment, has demonstrated efficacy in numerous clinical trials. It works well for a wide range of trauma victims including childhood physical and sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, war trauma, motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents and severe medical conditions. Despite the proven success of PE, most clinicians have not had the opportunity to learn it. This one-day seminar will discuss, in detail, the treatment components of Prolonged Exposure therapy in order to learn how to successfully treat PTSD. Advanced topics will also be discussed, such as how to handle multiple traumas and how to address substance abuse that co-exists with PTSD. Participants will gain knowledge through lecture materials, outcome research data, instructional videos and case demonstrations. Clinicians will be given opportunities to discuss concerns and apprehensions about PE and are encouraged to discuss their own case material. WHO SHOULD ATTEND
