Acquire practical strategies to assist children and families struggling with the day-to-day challenges of co-parenting, including visitation schedules, financial arrangements, parenting philosophies/rules, helping children thrive at school and more

The number of joint custody families is ever increasing. Therapists struggle to find effective strategies for refocusing co-parents to work toward the best interests of the child. Divorced parents' feelings of anger, hurt, pain and loss can distort their parenting sensibilities. Oftentimes, joint custody parents lose sight of their sense of confidence, intuition and insight into the needs of their own children. The effect on the child, especially if communication between joint custody parents becomes hostile, is traumatic. Therapists become frustrated as they see and feel the painful experience through the child's eyes, while parents do not recognize the negative effects of their attitudes and actions. Professionals working with families in this situation face a daunting challenge in helping ensure that the child's developmental and emotional needs are met while diffusing conflict.
